Her Roots

Balawal to Hemel Hempstead

Uzma was born in Balawal, Kashmir, Pakistan, and came to the United Kingdom as a baby. Hemel Hempstead became the place she called home.

She grew up here, built her life, and created a family and a community around her.

Her journey began in a small village, but her kindness touched people far beyond any place.

Her Family Was Her World

A Devoted Wife and a Loving Mother

For 25 years, Uzma built a life with her husband and their two sons, Uzair and Zayyan. Her family was at the centre of everything.

She was an extraordinary wife and mother, whose care could be found in the smallest details of everyday life.

After a full day, she would still make sure her husband and boys were fed, cared for and looked after.

Her weekends were spent at home, cooking, cleaning, caring for her boys, visiting family and making sure everyone around her was supported.

These were ordinary things to her. To the people who lost her, we now understand they were extraordinary acts of love.

“Mummy Uzma”

A Listening Ear, A Safe Place

Uzma's care didn't stop with her own two sons. Children throughout the wider family affectionately knew her as “Mummy Uzma.”

Nieces, nephews, cousins and younger relatives knew they could speak to her. She listened, didn't judge, and gave them a safe place to talk.

For many of them, she was their ear, their comfort and someone they could always turn to.

Feeding People Was
Her Way of Loving Them

Her Kitchen, Her Kindness

Uzma loved feeding people.

Family arriving, children visiting or somebody needing comfort often meant one thing – Uzma would find something to eat for them.

She was an exceptional cook, but food meant much more to her than cooking.

Feeding people was one of her languages of love.

She Showed Up

In Happiness and in Loss

Uzma believed in being there for people. If she heard that somebody had passed away, she would make every effort to attend their funeral – close family, distant relatives, friends and sometimes people she barely knew.

Someone was grieving. That was enough.

When Uzma herself passed away, more than 600 people came to her funeral. For someone who never considered herself to have a huge circle of friends, the number of people who came to say goodbye told its own story.

She had spent a lifetime showing up for others.
When the time came, people showed up for her.

A Heart That Didn't
Hold Anger

Her Warmth, Her Smile

Uzma wasn't someone who could remain angry for long. At home, she didn't believe in carrying yesterday's argument into tomorrow. Her family remembers her warmth, her humour, her care – and especially her smile.

Her husband describes it simply:

“No matter where we were, her smile could melt me.”

A Quiet and Sincere Faith

A Private and Sincere Faith

Uzma's faith was personal and sincere. She didn't feel the need to demonstrate it publicly.

Those closest to her knew how important her Salah was to her and how seriously she took her relationship with Allah.

She often helped people without telling anybody. There was no applause or expectation of recognition. She gave because somebody needed help.

That quiet approach to charity has become one of the principles behind the Foundation.

Why Uzma's Foundation

Why Uzma's Foundation?

Turning Remembrance Into Action

After losing Uzma, our family faced a question: How do you honour someone whose life was spent caring for others?

Uzma's Foundation was created to turn remembrance into action – through food and essential support, clean water, education and carefully chosen projects.

Our journey begins in Balawal, Kashmir, Pakistan – the village where Uzma was born. Insha'Allah, we hope the Foundation will grow wherever genuine need takes us.

Her Boys. Her Legacy.

Her Boys. Her Legacy.

The Next Chapter

Uzma left behind two sons who loved her beyond words. Uzair and Zayyan grew up watching their mother care, feed, forgive and give.

Together with their father, they will help carry those values into the next chapter of Uzma's Foundation.

It is a promise from the family she left behind that the good she put into this world will not end with her.

Her Kindness Lives On

A Life That Continues Through the Good It Leaves Behind

There will never be enough words to explain what Uzma meant to her husband, her sons, her family and everyone who knew her.

But perhaps the best way to understand Uzma is much simpler:

  • She loved her family.
  • She fed people.
  • She listened.
  • She forgave.
  • She prayed.
  • She gave quietly.
  • And she showed up.

Her kindness
lives on.
Her legacy
continues.
